'Dollhouse' was a really innovative series starring Eliza Dushku as 'Echo'/'Caroline' and is from the pen of Joss Wheddon, creator of 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' and 'Angel'. The series ran for only two seasons and this dvd set contains all of the episodes, including one which did not air during the original run. The story centers around 'Echo' who is a 'doll', the dolls are people who have something to escape in their real lives and who have signed themselves over to the 'dollhouse' for a set period of time after which they expect to step back into their own lives, meanwhile they live in the 'dollhouse'in a 'doll state', they are selected for often questionable tasks and hired by wealthy individuals, their memeories are replaced with imprinted personas by the quirkey, yet lovable 'Topher Brink', who then returns them to an almost childlike doll state once their tasks are complete. This is a secret organization, and one which cop Paul Ballard intends to blow wide open, hoping to save Caroline and others in the process, this is part of the main story arc for season 1 of the set, which runs an indivdual story per episode, through which we learn more about the main players. Some of the subtly of the story arc in season 1, is lost in season 2 as the story arc takes on a more frantic run towards the finish, this in part was due to the show being cancelled at the end of season 2, and the story arc, planned to play out over several more seasons, was all frantically packed into this final season, it is a shame it becomes so hurrid, but after a previous show starring Eliza Dushku, 'Tru Calling'ended abruptly without real conclusion, I can appreciate the need to tie up the loose ends on this show and it manages to do so, all be it with a certain urgency! This series is sure to become another cult classic and will doubtless continue to gather fans through reruns and this dvd boxset. Fans of 'Buffy' and 'Angel' may also be delighted to see Eliza Dushku, Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof reunited in various episodes and I think will really enjoy the charactor 'Topher Brink'. I recommend buying this complete boxset featuring all episodes rather than buying the seasons individually.Read full review
Excellent DVDs with a great sci-fi storyline. Directed by Joss Whedon who also did Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Serenity. Run time 1162 minutes.
